I lent my Samsung Galaxy Note 5 to a friend of mine who dropped it from a considerable height. There was no screen damage of any kind from the fall and I was grateful my device was still functional. After a while, I noticed a small patch of the screen had become a kind of purple-blue color. The patch grew in the next few days to cover the whole screen and I was unable to use the device properly. Can you help me fix this?

The purple screen is one of the most common problems to affect Samsung devices and can be quite problematic. At first, the purple color can appear a small spot on the screen, but over time the small spot tends to grow darker and larger, just like your screen is bleeding until the whole screen is covered.

If this is the problem you are experiencing, this article is aimed at helping you troubleshoot and hopefully fix the device once and for all.    Before we get to the solutions, however, it is important to note that this problem can be caused by both software and hardware problems and the solution used to fix the problem will depend on the main cause.

Why There is A Purple Screen Problem?

The purple screen of death is an indication that the VMK kernel of the EXX/ESXi host is experiencing a serious error and becomes inoperative, terminating virtual machines that may be running.

In layman's terms, you may be seeing the purple screen because there is a critical error on your device that is preventing the software on your device from functioning correctly. This could be a hardware issue that could result from a fall that may, in turn, affect the functionality of the software.

Because the problem can be so hard to understand, most people think it is difficult to fix. But as we shall see in this section, there are some solutions you can try that will get the device working normally again.

1. Unplug Unnecessary External Hardware

If there are any external devices connected to the device such as headphones and storage devices like SD cards, you may want to disconnect them from the device. Sometimes damaged eternal hardware can cause the problem to escalate resulting in a larger purple spot on the screen. At the very least, removing the external devices will prevent the problem from becoming more pronounced which can increase your chances of fixing the device.

2. Restart Your Samsung Device

Sometimes, a purple screen issue  can be solved with restarting your device, cause a restarting will help you to refresh the system and  remove any system errors that could be causing the problem.

  • Press and hold the power button on your Samsun device.

  • Tap "Restart" to restart the device.

3. Remove Overclock Settings and Tools

Overclocking the device by changing its hardware clock rate, multiplier or voltage can generate a lot of heat on the device which can cause the purple screen of death. You may there want to remove these overclock settings and tools to help lessen the load on the GPU and fix the problem.

4. Fix Samsung Purple Screen with One Clicks

Although the purple screen of death can be caused by hardware problems such as the former user describes above, the problem will appear when the proper functioning of the software components is affected. This is primarily why the device doesn't appear to have any damage at first only for the screen to appear purple a few hours later. The best way therefore to fix this problem is to use an Android firmware flash tool like iMyFone Fixppo for Android. This program is designed to fix all software related problems affecting your device including the purple screen of death in a few simple clicks.
